Baul Folk Singers of Bengal; Where Shall I Find Him

This video is a documentation of Baul music- Baul Sangeet and singers-Bauls, of West Bengal. Its lyrics carry influences of the Hindu Vaishnavite Bhakti movements and the Suphi, a form of Sufi song. Their lyrics intertwine a deep sense of mysticism, a longing for oneness with the divine and celestial love; but does this in very earthy terms. Among the different instruments that the Bauls use, the most famous one is the ‘Ektara’, made of gourd. However they also use ‘dotara’, ‘khartal’, ‘manjira’, ‘dhol’, ‘dholak’,’khamak’ etc.
